Plant & Moss Design Studio
Plant & Moss is a creative design studio. We work with interior designers, architects, manufacturers and also have our signature collections. The Plant & Moss Design Studio was founded in 2009 in the Jewellery Quarter, Birmingham. Situated in the Midlands the studio made good links with British manufacturing which we still use today.
Our first client was the the prestigious Liberty of London who spotted the collection at Tom Dixon’s, The Dock exhibition, as part of London Design Festival in 2009. The debut collections, Industry and Heritage were exhibited at the Tramshed 2011.
Now based in Islington, London the studio has gone from strength to strength building its product ranges and clients. Winning numerous awards and recognition along the way some of Plant & Moss’ clients include Heals, Anthropologie, Liberty of London, Pedlars, Selfridges concessions, Top Man, Du Boulay for Nandos and Homeless - Hong Kong to name a few.
Plant & Moss’ signature collection is handmade in Great Britain where the products are crafted using a mixture of time honoured skills and modern techniques. The work retains an artistic dimension that introduces fun, practical, unusual home and lifestyle products with an attention to design detail and the use of high quality materials that ensures a timeless piece.
Plant & Moss strive to create designs that are not only enjoyable, unusual and personal but we also try to ensure that they have as a little negative impact on the environment as possible. That’s why...
We Like Local All of Plant & Moss products are made in Britain with the majority manufactured in close proximity to our Jewellery Quarter-based workshop.
We Like Personal Nurturing our relationships with nearby independent businesses, craftsmen and artisans enables us to work closely with our community, having a direct input to the manufacture process and maintaining the integrity and quality of our designs.
We Like Nature With names such as Plant & Moss we can do little but to like nature. Wherever possible we do our bit to help the environment. This can be seen from responsible decision making during the design process such as selecting FSC timbers whenever possible.
We Like Longevity We want to create designs that become your family’s heirlooms that you will love, cherish and pass down through the generations. The quality of our work is reflected in the longevity of our designs.
What about our designs? We source logs from tree surgeons to create our Log Stool, this provides us with the freshest green timber that allows for each piece to crack in its own unique way. Our Odd Couples Bench is made from Ash grown in the UK and our chairmakers are members of the Woodland Heritage trust dedicated to the welfare and renewal of the UK’s natural resource of hardwood such as Oak, Elm, Ash, Maple, Beech and Walnut. Our ceramics are made Stoke-On-Trent in the UK home of ceramics, where we work with an environmentally considerate ceramics company that individually cast, clean, fire and dip our Earthen Lamps providing a high quality product with a handmade feel. The Arco Rod, an unusual design to say the least, is certainly resourceful. In fact the brief for the Arco Rod was to design a floor standing lamp that utilises existing components, where flex was needed, we have used a carbon fishing rod, where weight is needed we have used a breeze block and where tension was needed we have used a winch, each component perfectly fulfilling its requirements.
